People are being warned to be on their guard after people in Burntwood were targeted by bogus callers.

Staffordshire Police say incidents targeting elderly residents have taken place this week.

A spokesperson said: “The suspect, a male with a foreign accent, contacts the victim by phone claiming to be from the Met Police or New Scotland Yard. They state that the victim’s bank or credit card has been cloned and recovered after arrests have been made.

“They ask the victim to withdraw a large sum of cash from their account as it is counterfeit and advise they will send a courier to collect it as a matter of urgency.”

Police are urging people to be on their guard and report any such calls immediately, by ringing 101 or 999 in an emergency.
