A craft club which has been running since the 1980s has been getting into festive spirit.
The Whittington Craft Club has been working on Christmas ideas including hand-sewn greeting cards, cross stitch pictures and beaded handy-work.
The group meets weekly in a room at the village hall and recently invited Staffordshire County Councillor Matthew Ellis to see their creations first-hand.
“The ladies were very industrious indeed and had an array of Christmas crafts ready to show me,” he said. “It was super to see such skills in action and there was an incredibly friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
“Seeing the different crafts and ideas being shared was fascinating and it was great to hear how people looked forward so much to coming along each week. That in itself is so important to the local community. Really tremendous – and I enjoyed a great cup tea too!”
Megan Barr who runs the group says it’s the friendship which makes the gatherings so enjoyable.
“It was lovely that Matthew found the time to come along and he was clearly impressed with what we were making,” she said.
“It’s the friendships made and different skills which are shared that makes our club so special.
“Both ladies and gentlemen are welcome and there are no age restrictions. It’s all about good company and good fun but we often amaze ourselves at what we can make.”
