A wildflower meadow is being created in Burntwood.
Burntwood Town Council has approved the area at the Coulter Lane Burial Ground on St Matthews Road.
The meadow area will feature Ox-eye Daisy, Red Campion, Birdsfoot Trefoil, Selfheal, Common Poppy, Meadow Buttercup, Chervil, Ladys Bedstraw and Black Knapweed. These will be mixed with an annual seed mix of Common Poppy, Corn Marigold and Cornflower to provide colour in the first year.
Councillor Diane Evans, leader of Burntwood Town Council, said: “The scheme has been chosen as the mix of wildflowers, trees and shrubs will enhance the visual appearance of the site and encourage butterflies, insects and birdswithout compromising the ecology of the site or disturbing the remains of those buried there.”
The woodland flower area will be made up of Bluebell, Foxglove, Yellow Archangel and Cow Parsley.
The scheme also includes shrub planting and the introduction of trees, including Wild Cherry, Blackthorn, Hawthorn, Field Rose and Broom on one side of the site.
