Work is taking place across Lichfield and Burntwood to tackle a problem plant.
Teams will be working at Gentleshaw Common, Christian Fields, Pipehill Common and Muckley Corner Common to remove Japanese Knotweed
The plant spreads quickly, covers wide areas and can kill off native plant species.
Chris Walsh, Biodiversity Officer for Lichfield District Council, said:
“Because Japanese Knotweed is hard to keep under control, it is important that we continue to tackle it when it appears. We’re using herbicides, which are harmless to both humans and animals. However, as we don’t want the knotweed to spread further, we have put up signs next to where it grows, and are asking people to avoid these areas, as it can be spread very easily.”
Work to keep the Japanese Knotweed under control began this month and will take place again in September at Gentleshaw Common (Special Site of Scientific Interest), Christian Fields (Local Nature Reserve), Pipehill Common (Site of Biological Importance) and Muckley Corner Common.
