Youngsters have been digging in for a sandcastle competition in Lichfield.
Beacon Park played host to the Bank Holiday event organised by Lichfield District Council and saw a range of imaginative sand sculptures, including plenty of traditional castles and even a pyramid.
Brothers eight-year-old Ben and five-year-old Sam were chosen as the winners with their impressive sandcastle with a moat. They won a family ticket on the park’s pedaloes. Eight-year-old Charlotte was also chosen as a winner with her sandcastle. She won a free donkey ride. Both prizes were donated by Dunton Stables.
As well as the sandcastle competition, there were lots of activities on offer at Beacon Park’s temporary beach, with more than 100 children and their families enjoying games such as hoopla and skittles, and entering the find the Staffordshire Hoard competition.
Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said:
“Despite the weather, I am pleased lots of children and their families still managed to enjoy the activities that were on offer at Beacon Park this Bank Holiday Monday. Thank you to everyone who built their sandcastles and a big well done to Sam, Ben and Charlotte for making such great sandcastles and thank you to Dunton Stables for the prizes.”
After the summer holiday, all the sand from Beacon Beach will be spread over the football pitches to help with drainage, ready for the upcoming season.
