Wolverhampton United 1 Shenstone Pathfinder 3

Shenstone Pathfinder bounced back after two consecutive league defeats with a well earned victory away to Wolverhampton United.

Manager Chris Whitehouse made changes to the side with Michael Mayo coming in up front and Bernard Finkle returning on the left side of midfield.

And with the wind helping Pathfinder in the first half, they pressed Wolves back for long periods, but it was 35 minutes before the deadlock was broken. Dale Anderson battled for the ball on the edge of the box and passed wide for Adam Lightfoot who drove home from an acute angle.

Within five minutes Wolves were level when a good cross from the left was headed home past keeper Joel Perkins.

The sides went into the break 1-1 and after a half-time dressing down, Shenstone started the second half strongly, Lightfoot’s shot was just wide as Finkle stretched Wolves on the right.

It was another Finkle run down the left that saw him slip the ball to Jay Dinham inside the box, but just as he was about to shoot the Wolves defender pulled him back and the referee awarded a penalty. Dale Anderson made no mistake from the spot.

The hosts pressed hard for an equaliser and Pathfinder had to defend some nasty inswinging corners, but they dealt with them excellently and sealed the points when Michael Mayo struck a thunderbolt from the edge of the box that flew past the Wolves keeper.
