A COUNCILLOR has hailed the "exceptional" facilities at a new £12million school in Lichfield.
Greywood Primary Academy opened its doors for its first children in nursery and Reception class earlier this month.
Part of the Primitas Learning Partnership, the new school was built to meet demand from nearby housing developments at St John's Grange and Cricket Lane.
Cllr Janet Higgins, cabinet member for education and SEND at Staffordshire County Council, visited the school to meet children and staff.
She said:
"It’s wonderful to see the school up and running and the children settling in well.
"The facilities are exceptional and include the latest technology to help pupils thrive and achieve their full potential.
"Investing in education is investing in our future, and this school demonstrates our commitment to providing modern, high-quality learning environments."
Jane Jane, headteacher at Greywood Primary Academy, said:
"It is an honour to be leading a team who put our pupils at the heart of what they do.
"Although we are only at the beginning of our journey, there is already a real sense of togetherness and belonging across the school.
"We are incredibly proud of our pupils who have settled into their new school with enthusiasm, confidence and joy, and families who have embraced the school and become a part of the Greywood family.
"This is a strong foundation on which to build and we are excited to continue growing a thriving school at the heart of the community, where every child feels they belong and can achieve their very best."
