As Lichfield and Burntwood voters prepare to go to the ballot box for the local elections on May 5, The Lichfield Blog has offered each of the candidates the chance to have their say.
We’ve sent out questionnaires to all District Council candidates and will publish their responses on the site to help you decide where to put your cross on election day. If your local candidates haven’t responded yet, why not chase them?
Name: Terry Thomas
Party: Conservatives
Ward: Chadsmead
Occupation: Retired
What has made you decide to stand for election?
Having lived in Chadsmead Ward since 1985 and worked as a Chadsmead Councillor for the past five years, during which time I had the honour to represent Lichfield as both Mayor and Sheriff, I would like to continue serving my local community.
What are the key local issues for you in your ward?
We need to ensure that there are enough affordable homes for young people and enough houses to let for those who are on low wages. Anti-social behaviour needs to be reduced even more than it has been over the last four years, by better liaison with the police, which I am trying to do. Roads need to be improved and this is being carried out by using fixmystreet to get potholes repaired which has been successful.
If you are elected how do you plan to keep your constituents informed of what you are doing to represent them?
By means of our website www.chadsmeadconservatives.co.uk which is regularly updated and includes details of telephone and e-mail contacts and also a guestbook for postings and by continuing regular surgeries and newsletters. I am always available by telephone and e-mail. My mobile is switched on 24 hours a day.
How do you feel you will be able to make a difference to your constituents?
I have established a reputation over the past five years for responding promptly to residents’ concerns, either by telephone or personal visits and by following up until their individual problems are resolved.
Anything else you would like to add?
If elected I promise to continue to work hard as your representative on both City and District Councils to ensure that the concerns of all the residents of our ward are fully represented. Please vote for me on 5 May so that I can continue to represent our Ward.
