Michael Fabricant has been told his comments about punching a female journalist in the throat are “completely unacceptable”.
The MP for Lichfield and Burntwood has apologised after his tweet about Yasmin Alibhai-Brown.
He had said he would be unable to appear on a TV panel with the journalist after a debate she took part in on Channel 4 – with Mr Fabricant saying he would “either end up with a brain haemorrhage or by punching her in the throat”.
The colourful MP has since retracted his comments, but a Conservative spokesman revealed he had been “slapped down” by the Prime Minister and Chairman.
“Mr Fabricant’s comments were completely unacceptable, in poor taste and it is quite right for him to apologise unreservedly,” the spokesman said.
