THE new Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police has been announced.

David Gardner, currently the Acting Chief Constable of Warwickshire Police, will take up the role subject to ratification by the Police, Fire and Rescue Panel.

His appointment was announced by Staffordshire Commissioner Ben Adams following a "rigorous recruitment process".

He takes up the role from Acting Chief Constable Becky Riggs. She had stepped into the post following the suspension of Chris Noble, who later resigned on the eve of a disciplinary hearing which found he had committed gross misconduct.

The Staffordshire Commissioner said:

"After a rigorous recruitment process, I am pleased to confirm David Gardner as my preferred candidate for the role of Staffordshire Chief Constable.

"He brings the strategic insight, vision and leadership needed to take the force forward, with significant reform underway across policing, community safety, health and local government.

"I look forward to working closely with him to deliver the priorities set out in my Police and Crime Plan, strengthen local response and neighbourhood policing and ensure Staffordshire remains a safe place to live, work and visit."

Mr Gardner has held the role of Acting Chief Constable at Warwickshire Police since April 2026.

He has previously worked in roles across local policing and protective services, as well as on secondments to the Home Office and National Crime Agency.
