Councillors to debate proposal to spend more than £50,000 renovating Burntwood Town Council headquarters

Councillors are set to debate plans to spend £53,000 to improve Burntwood Town Council’s headquarters.

The three year programme of works would see an overhaul of a number of rooms, with replacements to windows and carpets along with redecoration. A new unisex first floor toilet will also be created.

The overall figure could rise by a further £18,000 if sash windows are replaced, meaning a final bill of more than £64,000.

A further £1,500 could be spent on the gardens, while £900 has been earmarked for patio furniture and games, including a mini-golf set.

The proposals will be discussed at a meeting of the town council’s policy and resources committee on Thursday (November 9).

A previous plan – which would have seen £5,000 spent on plants – was put on hold in July pending a public consultation.

However, an open day saw just three suggestion surveys completed, although a further 10 were received in advance and another collected via Facebook.

Here we go again. When probably 50% of Burntwood residents are feeling the pinch and the other half have seen their income lose value over the last few years the council still feel it necessary to continue with this vanity project. Question for the good and the great: has this facility made any money over the last 5 years? If the answer is no then the tax payers don’t put one more penny towards it, Debate over!!

A unisex toilet, that’s what Burntwood’s been missing.
Perhaps we could have a picture of Obama on the door?

Rob, the sheep might not recognise a picture of Obama. 😁

I don’t get the joke. Does Rob think that a Unisex toilet is some sort of politically correct toilet? Good grief.

Heaven forbid men and women get to use the same toilet! What an abomination. This is political correctness gone mad I tell you. I for one will not stand for it and will be writing a strongly worded letter! Next thing you know we’ll have unisex toilets in our own hom- oh.

Rob do you actually think unisex = transgender, or is it just that you’ve got to sneer at something?

No, I just don’t see why some people are never content unless they’re involved in changing accepted practices and procedures that are proven. I’m led to believe they consider themselves “progressives”.
Anyhow, I can’t see our muslim friends being too happy with unisex toilets, they won’t even mix sexes in classrooms, and I know none of us would wish to cause offence.

It’s just a bloody toilet. To be honest, we shouldn’t have called it unisex, it’s superfluous. Now… I am off to order some new unisex tables….

it just means anyone can use it Rob. It’s an efficient us of space. It’s not a demand that everyone gets involved in some kind of satanic perverse ritual. Should there be different doors for the building? Male and female? I really really hope the unisex toilet causes you offense. Very much offense.

Why would it cause me offense, what a strange thing to wish.

Hurray – Rob manages to get an anti-muslim dig in, just when I thought he was flagging. I think you’ll find that the idea with the mixed sex toilet is that only one person uses it at a time. Sheesh.

    Really?
I thought everyone stood around and formed a circle.
I fail to see how being concerned about the sensibilities of muslims can be construed as anti, some people are so prejudiced.

He’d have had a heart attack in many parts of Europe where they have two entrances – male and female – to the same toilets. It has lessened since the ups, but still exist.

Pull the other one, Rob. Why pick out Muslims specifically? Other faiths segregate, so why do you only mention Islam? Did you see a news story about a Muslim faith school recently by any chance? And did you happen to consider the non-Muslim faith schools that have been found segregating on gender? What about the countless faith-run single-sex schools that alienate boys and girls from each other from an early age? It’s not just Islam, of even just faith, so why pick out Muslims, Rob?
