A number of proposals to revamp the home of Burntwood Town Council have been rejected.
Proposals had been drawn up for a new gallery of former chairmen to be installed after a request from the authority’s new leader, Cllr Norma Bacon.
But a report from the policy and resources committee to a meeting of the council on July 26 revealed that the plans had been ditched.
It said: “The leader outlined her request that the town council recognise its civic history by installing framed photographs of its chairmen for display at the Old Mining College centre.
“Members were of the opinion that it was inappropriate and unnecessary for such a request to be agreed.”
Councillors did suggest an honour’s board could be installed instead.
Meanwhile, Cllr Bacon’s request for a new noticeboard costing almost £1,000 to be erected outside the offices has also been snubbed by the committee.
The report added that it had been refused as “the town council should be looking to utilise social media and its website as much as possible”.
A £55,000 plan to revamp the Old Mining College Centre has also been put on hold.
A refurbishment of the building and the creation of mini-golf course on the lawn was among the ideas floated for the revamp.
But the report revealed councillors had asked the authority to “take a few steps back” and understand what locals wanted from the site first.
A consultation event is now being planned to seek views from residents on the building’s future.
