Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant has said he would like to meet a Burntwood teenager to apologise for calling her “a complete twat” on social media.

The Conservative MP made his comments to 19-year-old Darcy May after she questioned his commitment to Burntwood.

But Mr Fabricant’s post has drawn criticism from both Lib Dem and Labour councillors across his constituency, who have both called for him say sorry for his use of language.

In a new post on Twitter, Mr Fabricant said he had not meant it in the context it had been taken in.

“I do apologise for calling her a ‘twat’,” he said. “I meant it in the twit sense.

“I genuinely only know Anglo Saxon swear words so was unaware of the alternative meaning.

“I would like to meet her, apologise, and explain precisely why I thought she was a troll from nowhere near my constituency, and gently point out why I thought her tweet to me was needlessly rude, inaccurate and ‘twitch’.”

Teenager Darcy has since clarified that she was not offended by the use of the words, but “did not think that anybody in a position of authority should respond with the use of bad language”.

The latest controversy isn’t the first time Mr Fabricant has drawn criticism for his use of the word.

A number of social media posts have sprung up regarding a previous incident on live radio in 2013.

Pathetic. The same excuses, and a half arsed apology without even admitting he was in the wrong. It took so many people challenging him to even get to this measly attempt, and still absolute silence from his fellow Lichfield Conservatives. Meanwhile he’s used his Twitter account to repeatedly try to discredit this young woman.

Let’s see what happens with my complaint to the Conservative Party. I won’t hold my breath, though.

What a thoroughly decent man. Respect. He even shows humility when he was even in the worng. I hope the young “lady” who started this, has learnt to control her rudeness in future

2 days of bluster and regurgitation of the “I didn’t know she was from Burntwood,” “I didn’t know it was a swear word,” “I didn’t mean it like that.”

Darcy has remained faultless throughout this issue.

Lichfield, Burntwood and young people deserve so much better.

Sadly we’ve got another 4 years of this prune.

Dave, seriously, it’s embarrassing, just stop.

Dave’s obviously either a past lover of MF, a fully paid up member of the blue rinse brigade or has spent too much time out in the lovely sun we have been enjoying throughout the district. Or possibly one of those Russian twitter bots MF mentioned.

Too little, too late MF. I am ashamed that you represent my constituency.

I’m sure Fabricant the experienced, savvy, self publicising media operator would like to use the teenager Darcy again to promote himself, he knew what a tweet of that calibre would achieve. If Darcy is clever she will shut him down, she has already stated publicly her response without the interference of the Conservative spin machine.
Personally I wouldn’t give Fabricant the steam off my pis$.

How was Darcy rude, Dave? She’s absolutely spot on with her comment. Fabricant does neglect Burntwood

Mr F. is used to crude language and not learnt from his use of this word in 2013 with Russel Brand. If he let’s Darcy know when he holds his advice surgery in Burntwood she could just turn up there- If she wants to.

Even I have been trolled on Twitter. I do not know whether it was Momentum or someone else, but people have doubted the provenance of my hair. Can you believe that?

I was interested to hear the Solicitor General’s reply to my hon. Friend the Member for
Macclesfield (David Rutley), but what steps can we take to deter young Online abuse
people from bullying other young people on Twitter, Facebook andother social media?

The Solicitor General
I am naturally reticent to trespass upon the bailiwick of my hon. Friend’s hair, so I will confine my remarks to the serious issue he raised about the mental health impacts on young people. Work is being done on training so that CPS prosecutors can enable victims and users to report
abuse and, in particular, to ensure that offending content can be removed by providers.

Daryll, you cannot silence me. I know you loony lefties are used to shouting down all others….as we have seen with the aggressive “lady” who started this personal attack, on the right honourable Mr Fabricant. You are being rude as well, I can’t say I expected anything less. cease and shut up , you are an embarrassment.

Dave, I wish you well on your long journey out of stupid.

You’re wasting your time Dave.
If you dare to express a different opinion to the herd you’re immediately consigned to the “troll” class. They have immense difficulty in recognising that not everyone thinks exactly the same as they do.
Thank goodness they hold the monopoly on compassion and tolerance or we’d be in a tidy state.

Loony lefties? We feel sorry for you, even with your sad insults. Did you know that personality test show the further right your politics, the lower your empathy and the higher your xenophobia.

@Rob

Until you turned up, Dave was the sole voice of support, on here and in the wider media. Fabricant has been roundly condemned by just about everyone.

Is Dave being unfairly singled out, as you claim? Or is he being stubbornly obtuse and lauding a man who got caught in his nasty little way, belittling the young (and female young at that), in a pathetic way to brush over what Fabricant did, in fact it’s worse than that, he’s trying to state that in some implausible way, Darcy was in the wrong.

Tell me Rob, enlighten me, who’s trolling who?

You’re the one who throws the trolling accusations at everyone you disagree with.
I’ll leave it to you.
