The backstage team for a new stage production of ‘Allo ‘Allo have been donning their berets to get into the spirit.
They donned their themed outfits for the latest rehearsals for The Lichfield Players latest show – and now they are encouraging audiences to do the same when the production opens at the Garrick on January 21.
Producer Kathy Bryers said: “When the original ‘Allo ‘Allo cast reunited to film a one-off TV special in 2007, the live studio audience was asked to come along in costume to mark the occasion. So we thought it would be great if we could mirror the idea at the Garrick to celebrate the fact people still love the show’s style of comedy over 30 years on from its birth.
“It would be amazing to see people in vintage dresses like those worn by cafe owner Rene’s wife Edith, or perhaps a few bartenders’ aprons as a nod to Rene – or even a kepi like the one worn by the vowel-mangling Officer Crabtree in his French disguise.”
The ‘Allo ‘Allo stage play follows the misadventures of hapless cafe owner Rene Artois in occupied World War II France. True to the TV series, it includes all the show’s characters.
