Organisers of the Ironman 70.3 event have confirmed the route of the bike section of the race.
Competitors will travel through Kings Bromley, Draycott in the Clay, Blithfield Reservoir, Rugeley and Cannock Chase as they link the 1.2 mile swim at Chasewater with 13.1 mile run at the Shugborough estate.
The bike route at the highly-anticipated event on June 14 2015 will see riders clock up 56 miles.
Race director Dan James said: “We have been working in conjunction with Staffordshire County Council for many months to create what we feel delivers a fantastic bike course for our athletes.
“Not only does it offer one of the flatter 70.3 bike routes available but it also highlights the stunning Staffordshire countryside along the way. A lot of personal bests will be set next June.”
County councillor Mike Lawrence added: “The bike course will showcase Staffordshire’s beautiful scenery to thousands of athletes and spectatorswatching across the globe.
“We are thrilled this exciting event is coming to our county, giving us a great opportunity to promote tourism and our growing reputation as a sporting destination.”
Online entries for the event will open at 1pm today (August 26) for athletes who have pre-registered their interest in the event. They will have 24 hours to secure a spot, before general entries open at 1pm tomorrow for any remaining places.
