A Burntwood man is getting ready to run a marathon to say thank you to a hospital where he was treated for a life-threatening brain abscess.
Stefan McWee, 19, was in his final year at primary school when he was rushed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
He had to have tubes inserted into his chest to administer antibiotics before having surgery to remove the abscess.
Now the Burntwood Leisure Centre recreation assistant is hoping to give something back to those who saved his life when he takes part in the Birmingham International Marathon later this year.
“I want to thank everyone at the hospital and all the staff,” he said. “Nothing can repay them for all you did for me, and to my friends and family for their support.
“This is my first marathon so it’s a challenge, but I’m training hard and it helps that I am running for a charity that I really believe in.
“Birmingham Children’s Hospital saved my life when I was ten and really unwell, and I hope lots of people will sponsor me so I can raise as much money as possible.”
