Burntwood St Matthews CC have been participating in activities in the local community to help aid their club and player development.
The club’s junior players have taken part in a bag packing exercise at the Morrisons supermarket in Burntwood.
The young cricketers were led by Marie and Nick Roberts, and raised a total of £460 which will go towards increasing the number of qualified coaches for next season.
Club welfare officer Marie said:
“Considering the numbers on holiday it was pleasing to see the junior players turn out for this fundraiser. A big thank you to Morrisons – the staff on the tills were great.”
The club have also run a stall at the summer fete at Burntwood Leisure Centre, which saw visitors given the chance to try their batting skills against a bowling machine.
Club chairman John Farmer added:
“The club has benefitted from support from local organisations and felt this was an opportunity to return that support while at the same time raising the profile of cricket generally and hopefully recruiting a few new members. The net was busy throughout the afternoon and several youngsters expressed an interest in attending junior coaching sessions.”
