Burntwood Town FC’s search for their first point of the season goes on after a heavy defeat against Smithswood Firs.
The fixture marked Town’s eighth attempt to get off the mark in the Midland Football League Division Three.
And things looked positive as they saw out the first half-an-hour against their high-flying visitors, but Craig Evans gave Smithswood the lead on 39 minutes.
Burntwood will have been pleased they didn’t suffer an immediate collapse – in fact it took until the 73rd minute for Evans to add his side’s second.
But further goals from Luke Keen and sub Adam Hemming gave the scoreline a wider margin than Town would have hoped for.
Burntwood will hope to forget their league troubles next weekend (November 1) when they travel to Leek CSOB in the Staffordshire Challenge Cup.
