Lichfield City FC Reserves got their first win of the season with a comfortable victory over Cadbury’s second string.
The visitors started positively and nearly opened the scoring on ten minutes when a Josh Bambury shot was tipped round the post by keeper Wilkinson after good work down the right from Leon Morgan.
City didn’t have to wait long to go one up, a long throw from Danny Reeves was headed in by Morgan on 18 minutes.
This gave Lichfield the confidence to pour forward and they should have doubled their advantage when a fine inswinging free kick from Ryan Baker just evaded Bambury and Zak Marriott to go agonisingly wide.
The second half started better for the hosts with striker Farrely going close.
But City doubled their advantage after 55 minutes when another Baker free kick was glanced in by Reeves to give the visitors some breathing space.
Lichfield then had their customery sloppy ten minute spell which saw Cadbury’s pull a goal back, but this just got City back on track as the visitors resumed normal service to put the result beyond doubt. A corner from Baker was headed against the bar from James Lawson, Jason Hewitt smashing in the rebound from 18 yards.
City dominated the last ten minutes and had further chances to increase their lead, Bambury guity of missing a couple of easy chances which would have made the scoreline a fairer reflection of Lichfield’s dominance.
Next week’s fixture (September 17) sees City take on Droitwich Spa at Brownsfield Park, kick-off 3pm.
