Volunteers are being urged to join a conservation event in Burntwood.
Lichfield District Council’s next Countryside & Park Conservation Group event is at Ironstone Road Heathland in Chase Terrace on October 3, from 10.30am to 3pm.
The day will see volunteers learning a traditional countryside practice to thicken and strengthen many of the site’s hedges.
The group will also help to expand the network of habitat piles, making Ironstone heaths an even better home for wildlife.
Habitat piles are tightly packed piles of logs and branches, woven together to create a home for small mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects.
Justine Lloyd, countryside manager for Lichfield District Council, said: “Only one sixth of heathland habitat present in 1800 remains today, so it’s really important that we help to maintain the district’s sites.
“As it’s a priority habitat for nature conservation, by helping us to manage this site, our volunteers are playing an important role in this work.”
