A NEW campaign is set to highlight the dangers of disposable vapes and batteries being put in household bins.
The next meeting of the Lichfield District Council and Tamworth Borough Council Joint Waste Committee will hear about plans to spend £19,500 on the initiative.
It will see stickers placed on bin lids in a bid to reduce the potential for fires when batteries and vapes are picked up by collection vehicles and taken to waste facilities.
A report to the meeting said:
“Disposable vapes and batteries present a growing risk within household waste streams.
“When placed in bins, these items can cause fires in collection vehicles and at waste facilities, posing significant safety and financial risks.
“Stickering bin lids is a powerful way to spread public awareness.
“The cost is estimated at £19,500, including sticker production and staff time required to apply them.
“It is envisaged that staff identified for the food waste service will be utilised to deliver the stickers during the roll out delay.”
The report will be discussed at the meeting on 16th April.
