CAMPAIGNERS in Lichfield say a £1.9million grant is an “historic” moment for their work with children and young adults with disabilities.
Liberty Jamboree was awarded the money from the Government’s Youth Investment Fund and will allow for the creation of a new base at Lichfield Sports Club.
The new community hub is the brainchild of the organisation’s CEO Maggi Huckfield, who said the the new facility would “transform” the lives of children and young adults.
“We’re overjoyed to announce this historic milestone after three years of relentless effort and hard work.
“Our dream was built on determination and a need to provide an inclusive, safe, purpose-built facility for these incredible young people.
“The building will allow Liberty to continue to deliver a range of initiatives that sustain and grow opportunities for disabled young people to participate and excel through our programmes and services.
“It will also allow us to continue advocating for families and offer information, advice and guidance to children, young people and their carers.”
As well as providing a new facility, Maggi revealed that the charity would have faced closure had the grant not been awarded.
“This money is life-changing for our members and means we can look forward to a future that was far from certain.
“It will make a huge difference to these amazing children and young adults, providing a place they can belong and thrive without the fear of displacement.
“It will also enable us to continue to deliver change, challenge inequality and promote greater public understanding of disability through our campaigning and influencing work.”
