PLANS to redevelop a petrol station on the A38 at Fradley have been submitted.

The proposals would see the demolition of the Shell facility on the northbound side and the erection of a replacement building.

Electric vehicle charging bays would also be introduced if the scheme is given the green light.

A statement supporting the planning application submitted to Lichfield District Council said:

"The site is an established service station that has operated for several decades and forms part of the wider strategic road network.

"The proposal does not extend built form into undeveloped land and does not introduce structures of greater height or massing than the existing canopy, ensuring that the character and appearance of the surrounding area are preserved.

"The design of the new sales building is modern, high quality and reflective of contemporary service station architecture. The increased floorspace will improve internal circulation, enhance staff facilities and provide a better customer offer without altering the established scale or visual presence of the site.

"The partial removal of pump islands, reduction of canopy coverage, and introduction of EV charging bays create a cleaner, more efficient layout that responds to modern operational requirements."
