Residents are being invited to help count winter birds in Lichfield.
The event on January 28 and 29 at Beacon Park is part of the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch.
To take part, people need to collect a free recording sheet from the Ranger Station (next to the crazy golf course) or the Discovery Hub (behind the bowling greens), and find a spot to sit and note all the feathered friends they see. Once the results are all in, the RSPB will use them to estimate how bird populations are holding up across the UK.
On both days, Beacon Park’s rangers will be helping people to make environmentally friendly birdfeeders out of pinecones in the Discovery Hub for just £1 a feeder.
Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for leisure services, said: “Joining in with this national bird watch is a great way to help the RSPB record the bird population in the region, and it will allow you to take a quiet moment for yourself to study our fabulous wildlife right on your doorstep.
“At this time of year, Beacon Park is full of a wonderful selection of birds, including Long Tailed Tits, Gold Finches, Robins and Tree Creepers, so come along and see what you can spot.”
