People are being invited to take part in a sponsored swim in Lichfield.

Friary Grange Leisure Centre will host the Swimathon Weekend event on April 28 and 29 to help raise vital funds for the Marie Curie Cancer Care Trust and Sport Relief.

The challenge is open to all ages and abilities, and will include 5k and 2.5k swims as well as a 5k team distance challenge.

Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for leisure services, said: “I am delighted Friary Grange Leisure Centre is hosting the Swimathon Weekend.

“Training and taking part in this sponsored swim is a great way to get fit and to raise awareness of charitable works. I hope lots of people take part and I wish them the best of luck on their challenges.”

The swimathon is taking place on Saturday 28 April, from 6pm to 9.30pm and on Sunday 29 April from 8.30am to 12 noon.

For those who prefer to cheer on from the sidelines, they can still do their bit by sponsoring local people who are taking part in the Swimathon Weekend by going to ‘sponsor a swimmer’ on swimathon.org.
