CHASETOWN were beaten by a single goal in their first pre-season fixture.

Manager Carl Dickinson included two trialists in his starting line-up at Redditch United along with a number of new signings.

The opening exchanges were dominated by defences before the Scholars carved out their first chance of note when Zach Findlay's dangerous ball into the area was well held by the home keeper.

Curtis Pond produced heroics at the other end moments later with a stop to deny Redditch from opening the scoring with the rebound cleared off the line.

The game began to open up with Jack Langston seeing a volley saved well just after the half-hour mark.

Pond was again called into action just before the break as he made another good stop to deny Tyler Bruck to keep the scores level.

Redditch had the better of the early stages of the second period, with a free-kick from Jak Hickman finding Alex Foreshaw, but he could only send his effort into the side-netting.

The breakthrough eventually came nine minutes from time when a cool finish saw the ball slotted home by Bruck.

The Scholars continue their pre-season schedule on 11th July when they welcome Hednesford Town.
