Chasetown FC ended a four year search for an opening day win with a superb result at Frickley Athletic.
The hosts were a whisker away from the opening goal after just three minutes when a corner kick from Jack McMenemy found a team mate but the ball was cleared off the line.
Chasetown took the lead in the 25th minute with an own goal. George Cater drilled the ball across and Liam Kirton’s shot was superbly saved by Thomas Jackson, but the keeper saw the ball ricochet off Rian McLean into his own goal.
It was almost lucky strike two before half time. Owen Nolan received from Cater and his drive heavily deflected off defender Todd Jordan and Jackson only just kept the ball out.
But The Scholars did make it 2-0 in the 43rd minute when Kirton beat the offside trap and calmly slotted past Jackson.
Chasetown where three in front just five minutes into the second half. Cater stole into the box from a Jack Langston pass and when Jackson saved his first effort, Cater superbly looped the ball into the back of the Frickley net.
The hosts went close to pulling one back but Chasetown remained in charge and Langston rattled the crossbar from just inside the box.
The home side were reduced to ten men when Jacob Hazel fouled Callum Lovatt.
