Spennymoor Town made light work of knocking Chasetown FC out of this season’s FA Trophy.
The Durham side started well and gave Chasetown an early warning when the pacy Gavin Cogdon out-stripped full back Jermaine Johnson and was a whisker over the crossbar.
They took a deserved lead in the 14th minute when Cogdon again outpaced the Chasetown defence and drilled it low past John Bateman.
Within a minute, Spennymoor doubled their advantage when an unmarked Nathan Fisher headed beyond Bateman.
The hosts had further chances to increase their lead but eventually made it 3-0 four minutes before half time when Shane Henry slotted past an advancing Bateman.
Ten minutes after the break, man of the match Cogdon broke through the visitors’ rear guard and beat Bateman, but his shot came back off the post.
The Scholars’ number one then made further saves to deny the other goalscorers Henry and Fisher.
Chasetown’s best effort came midway through the half when Richard Davies forced a save out of Adam McHugh but by then the game was already won.
The home side rested two of their goalscorers with the game out of the Scholars’ reach with the Moors still well on top of proceedings.
Spennymoor kept looking for more goals and a great cross from Stephen Capper was headed goalwards by Joseph Tait and Bateman was again equal to the effort.
