Chasetown FC’s Richard Batchelor believes his goal has proved to manager Charlie Blakemore that he’s not scared of the dark!
The midfielder got the winner in the 2-1 Unibond League President’s Cup clash against old rivals Rushall Olympic FC.
And Batchelor hopes his second half strike might reduce the amount of dressing room banter aimed in his direction.
He explained:
“I was glad to get on the scoresheet as the gaffer has been moaning that he needs more goals from myself and Ben Steane. And he also popped the joke into the team talk that I don’t perform as well in Tuesday games as I do on Saturdays.
“So to score the winner was good and let me know him that I’m a big lad now!”
Batchelor bagged the winner after Danny Smith’s earlier strike had been cancelled out by Rushall’s Kurtis Braithwaite.
But the Chasetown goal hero admitted his strike came at just the right time.
“It was a good game, but I thought we were under the cosh first half, but we scored at just the right time.”
One disappointment for Batchelor, however, was the absence of former Scholar Harry Harris – who arrived at the game only to discover he was cup-tied – in the visiting line-up.
But the old pals could get the chance to lock horns again when Rushall entertain Chasetown on December 5 – and the Scholars midfielder can’t wait. He said:
“I can’t wait to line-up against Harry because the banter is always great.”
