Organisers of the Ironman traithlon at Chasewater are expecting a sell-out when the online entry system goes live later this month.

More than 7,500 people have registered their interest in the event, which will take place in June 2015.

Those people will be able to try and snap up a place when online applications open at 1pm on August 26. Any remaining spots will then be available to all from 1pm the following day.

Competitors will face a gruelling 1.2 mile swim at Chasewater before embarking on a 56 mile bike course through countryside around Lichfield. Their final challenge will be a 13.1 mile run through the Shugborough Estate.

Kevin Stewart, managing director or Ironman UK, said: “We have had an incredible response to the announcement that we are coming to Staffordshire and there is bound to be a great demand for places when entries go live.

“The venue of Shugborough and the amazing backdrop of Staffordshire offers the perfect setting in every aspect and I am confident next year’s competition will swiftly prove a sell-out.”
