Lichfield City’s second string battled to earn a share of the spoils against a strong Coleshill side and keep their unbeaten record intact.
The visitors were under the cosh from the opening minute, Rob Seal going close for the home side before a stunning save from Scott Hamilton denied Arijah Mcbean.
City were struggling to get a foothold in the game as the home side’s passing stretched the visitors all over the park.
Keeper Hamilton was again on hand to deny Seal and then Mcbean with terrific saves to keep his side on level terms at the break.
A stern talking to at half time from manager Paul Holt and a change of formation led to a vastly improved City display in the second half, striker James Lawson going close on 47 minutes with a dipping volley that clipped the crossbar after good work by Jason Hewitt.
City were dealing with the hosts’ attacking threat a lot more comfortably, with Leon Morgan playing in a deeper role and centre half Will Evans commanding the backline.
The visitors were pressing more and more and on 68 minutes a fine bit of individual skill from Hewitt saw him shrug off the attention of three defenders to hit a stunning shot that dipped under the bar to put Lichfield one up.
Coleshill threw everything at City and were rewarded when a free-kick was headed in at the back post by the impressive Mcbean to put the hosts back on level terms.
This set up an exciting last ten minutes as both sides poured forward searching for the winner with Morgan firing straight at keeper Will Spannage and Fabian Facey forcing the Coleshill keeper to save low down.
At the other end the visitors couldn’t find a way past the inspired Hamilton, Mcbean once again thwarted.
Josh Leaver had the final chance of the game when he fired tamely over from 10 yards.
Next Saturday (September 3), Lichfield City’s second string travel to Earlswood Reserves, kick-off 3pm.
Elsewhere, Lichfield City’s first team went down 2-1 at home to Northfield Town.
