A COLLECTION of fountain and ballpoint pens has fetched a price to write home about after being sold by a Lichfield auctioneer.

The items included special edition models by Cross, rollerballs by Sheaffer and other examples by Waterman, Parker and Dunhill.

The collection made £3,010 when it went under the hammer with Richard Winterton Auctioneers.

Other pen owners are now being urged to find out what their models might be worth at auction at a free valuation event at The Auction Cafe in Lichfield city centre on 27th August.

Specialist Stuart Hay will be at the Market Street venue from 9.30am to 12.30pm to offer advice on pens as well as cameras.

He said:

“There is a strong market at auction for all types of pens and mechanical pencils, with other popular brands including Montblanc, Montegrappa, Platinum, Swan, Mabie Todd, Namiki and Pilot.

“I will also be offering free valuations of antique, vintage or modern cameras, lenses and optical instruments and equipment.

“Again, this is an arena which has a strong following at auction, with serious collectors and hobbyists from all over the world taking an interest in our catalogues.

“Popular brands include Leica, Hasselblad, Nikon, Canon, Reid and Sigrist, Zeiss, Olympus, Zenza Bronica, Kodak, Pentax, Mamiya, Voigtlander and Swarovski.

“Whether it’s cameras, lenses, telescopes, microscopes, binoculars or fountain pens, I’m looking forward to discovering some interesting instruments.

“If your collection or item is too big to take along with you, please bring some photographs instead and we will do our best to help.”
