LOCAL college students are celebrating after claiming an e-sports title.
The South Staffordshire College Serpents went undefeated to win the Rocket League tournament in Halesowen.
The competition brought together some of the strongest gaming teams in the region to battle it out for the crown.
In their first-ever in-person tournament, the Serpents – made up of Cameron Powers, Aidan Price, Ashton Simmons coach and Filip Patrzykat – delivered a flawless performance, overcoming both the Sandwell Wolfpack and the Halesowen Halestrom.
Ashton also earned special recognition, taking home the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.
He said:
“The tournament that took place in Halesowen was amazing – as a team we had practiced for a long time and for that to really shine during the experience as we didn’t lose a game was a really proud moment.
“While the nerves of being on stage in front of a lot of people can be daunting at first, as soon as I found my footing and people started cheering and clapping all of that nervousness went away and I had a blast.
“Getting the MVP award was an honour and will be something I cherish as a symbol of how much dedication I’ve put I to the game over the years and I hope there will be more to come.”

“I couldn’t be prouder of the SSC Serpents Rocket League team for attending and absolutely smashing it.
“The four lads who took part showed professionalism, resilience and excellent teamwork throughout the tournament – and a special shoutout to Ash who earned MVP.”
