The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party from Alice in Wonderland is the theme of two plays in this year’s production of the Lichfield Mysteries.
Students from South Staffordshire College’s Performing Arts department, with their director Emily Humble, chose the innovative theme for their plays The Last Supper and Betrayal.
Emily explained: “The story of the first play is themed around the tea party, with the character of the Mad Hatter playing Jesus.
“The second play, Betrayal, portrays Judas as the Cheshire Cat, the character in Alice in Wonderland who betrays the Hatter. The other ‘disciples’ are other Wonderland characters, in strong support of the Hatter.”
The Lichfield campus-based students are currently studying a two-year BTEC (Level 3) Extended Diploma in Performing Arts. The first and second year students are taking part in the project.
The Last Supper and Betrayal are two of the 25 plays in the Lichfield Mysteries which will be performed over the May Day bank holiday, Sunday and Monday May 6 & 7. The free event takes place on Market Square and in the Cathedral.
