Volunteers are being urged to muck in at a local group’s next nature conservation event.
Lichfield District Council’s next Countryside & Park Conservation Group event is at Muckley Corner Common and will involve making a new hibernacula for amphibians and reptiles, as well as cutting and clearing overgrown vegetation to make more space for wildflowers to grow.
Taking place on August 1 from 10.30am to 3pm, the event is free and open to anyone over 18 years of age.
Justine Lloyd, countryside manager for Lichfield District Council, said: “We hope plenty of people take part in this important conservation day at Muckley Corner Common, as it’s a great way to learn new skills, meet people, and help to increase the amount of amphibians, reptiles and wildflowers at the site.”
Ruth Witczak, Beacon Park’s community and education officer, added: “This will be an active day outside, so remember to wear sturdy footwear and to bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink, although free tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided throughout.”
To get to the site, turn left off Walsall Road onto Boat Lane and follow the road to the t-junction, then turn left again. The entrance to Muckley Corner is at the end of the road on the left, immediately before the A5. The postcode is WS14 0BB.
