RESIDENTS are being asked to share their views on plans to improve a green space in Lichfield.
Lichfield District Council is working with local partners including Liberty Jamboree, the Friends of Christian Fields, Lichfield City Council and local ward councillors to develop a shared vision for enhancing the site off Eastern Avenue.
The local authority said that it was keen to explore ways to better connect physical wellbeing, outdoor activity and the natural environment by improving the quality, accessibility and facilities.
Future plans being explored include improving pathways, enhancing signage, creating new habitats to support biodiversity and developing inclusive outdoor learning and play opportunities in partnership with Liberty Jamboree.
Improvements to the underpass linking the leisure centre to Christian Fields are also being considered.
Cllr Phil Whitehouse, cabinet member for operational services at Lichfield District Council, said:
“Christian Fields is a valued green space for our community, and we want to build on the improvements already underway to make it even more accessible, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.
“We’re working closely with local partners and community groups to develop a shared vision for the site, and it’s really important that residents help shape what happens next.”
Funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund has already enabled the restoration of the upper steps, with further improvements to the lower ones planned for later this year.
Work is also taking place to enhance the main entrance, improving access for wheelchair users, people with mobility aids and families with pushchairs.
Lichfield City Council has also funded improvements, including upgrades to steps and the lower car park, alongside wider maintenance and access improvements.
