COUNCIL chiefs say they “understand the concerns” of local residents after development began on land near Burntwood over the bank holiday weekend.
Work on Woodhouses Lane has included ground levelling, the installation of pipework and the addition of structures on the site.
A number of concerned residents contacted council officials over the weekend to report the work taking place.
One told Lichfield Live:
“At approximately 7.30am on Friday (3rd April), I was disturbed by heavy machinery operating on the site to clear the land and install a cesspit.
“There is significant concern within the community that further mobile units may be installed imminently.
“It is our understanding that this land was sold at auction as grassland and we are not aware of any planning application having been submitted or approved for a change of land use.
“This situation is causing considerable distress among residents due to the rapid development of the site.”
A spokesperson for Lichfield District Council said officers had visited the site earlier today (7th April).
They added:
“We’re aware of the situation at Woodhouses Lane and understand the concerns that have been raised locally.
“Our officers visited the site over the weekend and are back this morning. We will provide a further update as soon as we are able to.”
