THE new design code for shopfronts in Lichfield city centre is set to be signed off at a meeting.
The Lichfield District Council says the document will “establish clear design requirements” for future developments.
It was drawn up by urban design specialists on behalf of the local authority.
A report to a meeting of the council said:
“The design code was prepared following engagement with local businesses, stakeholders and the wider public.
“Statutory consultation and further community engagement have been completed, and the final design code reflects the feedback received.
“The code establishes clear design requirements for shopfronts, supporting high-quality design, heritage-led regeneration and the protection of the city’s historic character.
“It will provide consistent guidance for applicants, businesses and planning officers, improving clarity and decision-making.”
The report added that the code had been drawn up after “longstanding concerns about inconsistent shopfront design and gradual erosion of the historic character” of the city centre.
It will be discussed at the meeting of Lichfield District Council this evening (19th May).
