A Burntwood councillor has raised concerns over the use of a former care home for dog training.
The former Greenwood House Care Home on Lichfield Road had been used to train police dogs but, following complaints from local residents, Cllr Steve Norman was reassured that the exercises would stop.
However, the Labour councillor is now keen to hear from local residents about whether local people still have concerns over dogs being trained at the site.
“I do remember earlier in the year seeing about six or seven vans and a number of police officers and thought, at that time, that there had been a major incident,” he said. “I did not realise that this was a more frequent event which resulted in the complaints made to me.
“Staffordshire County Council told me that they had allowed the use of the building, which has been empty now for over four years, to be used for dog training exercises but that this had now finished. However, on Sunday I saw two police vans there and have written again to Staffordshire County Council to get some clarification.”
Cllr Norman would like to hear from any nearby residents who are concerned about the current use of the building. They can call in at an advice surgery being held on Saturday (July 7) between 10am and 11am at Burntwood Library.
He added: “Greenwood House should have been the town’s other Health Centre but when the Coalition came in that was stopped.
“Statements from the County Council of some sort of joint use of the building with the Primary Care Trust – a body soon to be abolished – have been made over the last few years but have come to nothing as yet.”
