The future of the Conservative Party in Lichfield and Burntwood is in excellent hands, according to a local councillor.
Cllr Joseph Powell, who represents Little Aston and Stonnall, believes the election of young-guns Ben Rayner, Olivia Joy Shepherd and Beth Fisher proves that the future is bright for the party in the area.
He also welcomed a rise in the number of female councillors.
Cllr Powell said: “We wanted to recruit younger people who’re comfortable with technology to stand for council elections.
“As a council, I believe we’re now 20 years younger than we were in the previous session. We’re also now 25 per cent female – I know that is not the 50 per cent you’re supposed to have, but things are getting better.
“For example, there is a picture gallery going to back to 1898 at the council and the first three or four photos shows a group of male politicians with a solitary lady.”
