A COUNCILLOR has been honoured for her long service in Fazeley.
Cllr Jo Atkins, who has sat on Fazeley Town Council for 26 years, was awarded the Freedom of the Parish of Fazeley in recognition of her dedication to the area.
The independent representative said:
“I wanted to be a councillor to simply help people and see my local community grow.
“Fazeley is my home, I love it and I care about it. I just wanted to get up and do something for everyone else.
“This is a great honour.”
Originally from Yorkshire, Jo began her time on the council in 1999 and has only lost one election since – but even then, she was reappointed just one month later.
The honour was officially bestowed by the Mayor of Fazeley, Cllr John Hill.
He said:
“Jo embodies what it means to serve with heart, purpose and integrity.
“She’s been an experienced voice on this council and a tireless advocate for Fazeley. This recognition is truly well-deserved.”
