A charity has collected a cheque after a year of fundraising by a Staffordshire councillor.
Cllr Erica Bayliss, County Council’s chairman and representative for Lichfield Rural South, presented a cheque for £3,500 to Help for Heroes.
A number of events throughout the year helped to raise the money for her chosen charity.
Cllr Bayliss said:
“Help for Heroes raises money to support members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of their country. It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to help raise money for this great cause and show these extraordinary young men and women that we care. I would also like to thank the very many other people who have helped with the fundraising.
“We are very proud of our strong links to the armed forces in Staffordshire and it is always a pleasure to demonstrate this.”
Jeremy Hobbs from Help for Heroes added:
“This is a tremendous amount of money which will go towards the new Personnel Recovery Units that Help for Heroes is establishing for the long term care of our wounded personnel.
“Help for Heroes is a national internet-based charity run by volunteers, so we are able to use every penny of the funds raised to help the young servicemen and women and their families affected by serious injury.”
