Councillors have approved plans to spend £10million on a new leisure centre in Lichfield.
A meeting of the local authority this evening (28th February) saw the funding agreed for a long term replacement for Friary Grange Leisure Centre.
The new facility will be built at Stychbrook Park and will feature a swimming pool, spin studio, gym, dance studio and all weather sports pitch.
The leisure centre will be based on an existing design currently being constructed in Essex.
Cllr Doug Pullen, leader of Lichfield District Council, said:
“I am very pleased that the council has backed this significant investment.
“We are forging ahead with delivering a new leisure centre – and we are able to do this without increasing the tax costs for district council services.”

Construction of the new leisure centre is expected to begin later this year, with council chiefs hoping it will open in December 2024.
