WORK to clean up a huge mound of rubbish dumped on a road in Lichfield has begun.
Fly-tippers blocked Watery Lane with the pile of waste yesterday morning (20th January), blocking access for residents and local businesses.
Lichfield District Council said work began this morning to remove the waste, with the road expected to reopen later today.
A spokesperson for the local authority said the hunt for those responsible was also underway – and urged anyone with information to get in touch.
“We’re aware of a large quantity of waste that has been fly-tipped on Watery Lane.
“Due to the scale of the fly-tipping, we immediately informed the Environment Agency. In the meantime, our environmental health officers are looking for evidence while we make arrangements to safely remove and dispose of the waste as soon as possible.
“If anyone has information about the people or vehicles involved, or the origin of the waste, please contact us on 01543 308000.”
