LOCAL runners have stepped up to support efforts to restore a canal.
Lichfield Running Club donated £500 to Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust (LHCRT) to thank them for their support at last year’s Lichfield 10k event.
Volunteers staffed the race’s water station, keeping hundreds of runners hydrated as they tackled the popular route through the district and local villages.
The cheque was presented to representatives from LHCRT’s events team, green and grounds team and Duke of Edinburgh volunteers.
The contribution will support the ongoing work to restore the historic Lichfield Canal.
Christine Howles, LHCRT trustee, said:
“Being part of the Lichfield 10k is always a great morning for our events team volunteers.
“We’ve helped out each year for more than 20 years, when the 10k route crossed the line of the Lichfield Canal at Darnford Lane. Ever since then we’ve been proud to play a small part in such a well-loved local event – and this donation will go straight back into the restoration work that means so much to our community.”

“We are proud to have delivered another fantastic community event and to have the Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust as one of our valued charity partners.
“Their support over the years has been incredible, and the friendly, encouraging water station team is always a highlight for runners.
“We look forward to welcoming them back on 13th September for this year’s Lichfield 10k and fun run. Entries are now open and it’s set to be bigger and better than ever.”
