A doughnut maker say they have been inundated with applications for “the best job in Britain”.
Planet Doughnut, which has a store in Lichfield, launched the search for someone to help create new flavours for future ranges.
But boss Duncan McGregor said he had been forced to extend the application process due to the number of people who put themselves forward.
The company are now whittling down more than 1,000 applicants in order to find the winner, who will receive a free monthly box of doughnuts featuring new flavours to provide feedback on.
Duncan said:
“The interest we got off the back of our call out for a doughnut taster surpassed all of our expectations.
“We’ve had applications from all over the country, which just goes to show what a nation of doughnut lovers we really are.
“We’re passionate about coming up with unique flavour combinations to make sure that what we’re offering is not only new and exciting but that our menu reflects what our customers really want to see in our stores. That’s why having a doughnut taster is so important to help us take some of our best selling flavours to the the next level and help us come up with the next big thing.”

As well as the search for a doughnut taster, judging has also started for the bakery’s design your dream doughnut competition which asked kids to design their ultimate sweet treat to be in with a chance of seeing it sold in store.
The winning doughnuts will hit shelves next month, with profits donated to children’s charity The Little Rascals Foundation.
