The owners of Drayton Manor Park say they are “shocked and devastated” following the death of an 11-year-old girl who fell into the water on the Splash Canyon ride.

The girl – believed to be from the Leicestershire area – was on a school trip to the theme park when the incident happened this afternoon (May 9).

A statement from the Bryan family, which has owned the park since its opening in 1950, said: “It is with great sadness we have to report a young girl has passed away following an incident on one of our rides.

“We are all truly shocked and devastated and our thoughts are with her friends and family at this tremendously difficult time.”
