Lichfield communities are being invited to add their events to a growing list of celebrations being planned as part of the visit of the Olympic flame to the city.
A number of activities are already set to take place to mark the occasion on June 30 when the torch will be carried from the National Memorial Arboretum to Cathedral Close, via Streethay and Lichfield city centre.
Among the events already organised are:
- A parade of vintage Austin-7 cars
- The Cathedral Dash round The Close at noon
- Musical performances on Market Square
- A children’s sailing regatta on Stowe Pool
- Cars in the Park
- An aquathon
- The making and lighting of one-thousand origami boats that will be floated on Minster Pool
- Circus skills workshops
- A national town crier competition
- Community games
Other events will include an Armed Forces Day at the National Memorial Arboretum, a community fun day in Streethay play area, and a ‘design a torch’ community day in Hopwas village playing field and Methodist Hall.
“We’re so proud that the Torch will be carried through the streets of Lichfield District and wanted to make a day of it,” said Cllr Val Richards. “We’re expecting thousands of people to join us to celebrate this exciting event.”
