The proposed expansion of a Lichfield hotel has been given the green light by planning chiefs.
The bosses of Swinfen Hall Hotel have been granted permission to add additional rooms with the construction of a new block and the conversion of existing staff accommodation.
The scheme will also see the creation of 12 “lakeside chalets”, two holiday cottages and a gym, along with new indoor and outdoor swimming facilities.
A planning statement said the proposals were part of an investment plan by the Bushell Investment Group to turn around the fortunes of the hotel.
“Swinfen Hall Hotel was purchased after a prolonged period of financial loss.
“Bushell Investment Group plan to invest £5million into the hotel in order to modernise it, increase the number of keys and make it into a profitable five-star hotel for Lichfield.
“The proposed works will create a unique destination for the area and safeguard the ongoing optimum viable use for his important heritage asset.
“The injection of capital and the associated renovation works will ensure the long-term viability of the hotel. Without it, it is likely the hotel will suffer further losses and may eventually end up closing.”
