A FIREFIGHTING boss says local crews have dealt with a summer of "unprecedented demand".
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue were called to more than 600 outdoor fires in August, almost double the number in the same month last year.
Chief Fire Officer, Glynn Luznyj, said:
"I want to publicly express my sincere thanks to all of our firefighters, control staff and support staff for all of their fantastic actions dealing with this summer’s unprecedented demand.
"Crews have been facing difficult conditions including the hot weather, heat waves and drought.
"I am proud of how everybody has responded and put public safety first.
"I would also like to thank local communities who have supported local fire stations and done their bit to help us keep Staffordshire safe."
